The Advantages Of Choosing Alexander Sheep

Sheep grazing on a pasture near a red barn under a clear sky during sunset.
  • Buying from an established flock with decades of selection pressure puts you ahead. Quality rams have been used for generations and many problems have been eliminated.

  • The flock has been closed except for a few outside breeding rams that were carefully quarantined before being introduced. This assures you that you are not importing health problems. The farm has always been foot rot-free. There are no known health issues.

  • Our sheep are adapted to being outside year-round in the northeast climate. They know how to graze through snow and seek shelter from the wind. This eliminates the overhead expense of a barn and reduces the winter feed bill.

  • The animals are trained to electric fence, including temporary fencing. They are used to frequent moves to new grazing breaks.

  • The sheep have been raised with livestock guard dogs.

  • The ewes have lambed on pasture for decades. They lamb easily on their own and are excellent mothers. North Country lambs are up and sucking in minutes and able to follow their mother in an hour. Ewes that required assistance getting their lambs to nurse because of udder or teat issues are eliminated.

  • The flock has good feet and doesn’t require trimming if kept off the bedding pack.

  • North Country Cheviot lambs grow well on pasture and can be finished on either quality grass or grain. They easily grade prime and are sought after by packer buyers because of their excellent carcasses.

  • Alexander Farms provides consulting support for buyers. We can also advise on marketing your lambs. We want you to be successful and spread the word about your positive experience with sheep from Alexander Farms.

We have 40+ two-year-old commercial North Country Cheviot ewes available. A few with some Clun Forest way back. These ewes were bred to lamb at 12 months, and we have recently weaned off their second lamb crop. They were out wintered and grazed up until Feb. 1st, lambed on pasture, and were moved daily in a managed intensive grazing system. They are broke to temporary electric fence and familiar with livestock guard dogs. A good young set of ewes with a lot of longevity ahead of them. $350/head when sold as a group.

3 and 4 Year Old North Country Cheviot Ewes

We are offering 50+ three and four-year-old commercial North Country Cheviot ewes. A few have some Clun Forest further in their background.
